Thai farmers benefit from state rice pledge scheme despite IMF concern
Phi Mai, Thailand. 22nd November 2013 -- A pick-up truck laden with bags of freshly harvested rice is delivered to a state-run factory as farmers take advantage of a government scheme guaranteeing prices. -- Farmers are queuing from dawn to dusk to sell their freshly harvested rice crop to government factories at guaranteed prices of 60 US cents per kilo. The scheme has led to concerns from the International Monetary Fund over Thailand's rice reserves.
