Thai farmers benefit from state rice pledge scheme despite IMF concern
Phi Mai, Thailand. 22nd November 2013 -- A worker pictured as he walks in front of a mountain of rice being delivered daily to a state-run factory. Thai farmers are taking advantage of a government scheme guaranteeing harvest prices. -- Farmers are queuing from dawn to dusk to sell their freshly harvested rice crop to government factories at guaranteed prices of 60 US cents per kilo. The scheme has led to concerns from the International Monetary Fund over Thailand's rice reserves.
