Traditional method of rice harvesting still employed in Thai northeast

Phi Mai, Thailand. 26th November 2013 -- A Thai farmer works under the hot afternoon sun using a traditional curved metal sickle to bring in the annual rice crop. The rice will require drying in the sun after cutting to prevent any moisture that could spoil the crop once stored -- Farmers in northeast Thailand, considered one of the poorest regions in the country, still employ the traditional method of cutting rice by hand using sharp metal sickles with curved blades as the annual monsoon crop is harvested.
