China marks Mao Zedongs 120th birthday with restraint
Young Chinese students dressed in Red Army costumes sing a song during the launch ceremony of a Red Army primary school on the day of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mao Zedong in Gulin county, Luzhou city, southwest Chinas Sichuan province, 26 December 2013. China marked the 120th birthday of Mao Zedong with restraint on Thursday (26 December 2013), as the nation continues with market-based economic reforms that go against the ideology of its former communist leader. An editorial in the partys official paper said the best commemoration of Mao would be, according to the BBC, to advance economic reforms that were launched by his successor. Xinhua, Chinas state-run news agency, ran a story titled Precious photos of Mao Zedong, with the subhead, as a founder of the Peoples Republic of China, Mao is one of the most influential figures in Chinas modern history.
