Thais prepare for New Year and the annual Songkran Water Festival

Chumpueang, Thailand. 10th April 2014 -- A mother chooses a brightly coloured shirt for her young son at a local market for the upcoming three-day Songkran festival. In recent years, many have taken to wearing bright colours as they celebrate what is also the start of the Thai New Year. -- Crowds can be seen flocking local markets as they seek out brightly coloured shirts that have become synonymous with the start of the Thai New Year and the Songkran Water Festival. The name Songkran comes from a Sanskrit word meaning 'passing'.
