Thais prepare for New Year and the annual Songkran Water Festival

In recent years, many have taken to wearing bright colours as they celebrate what is also the start of the Thai New Year. -- Crowds can be seen flocking local markets as they seek out brightly coloured shirts that have become synonymous with the start of the Thai New Year and the Songkran Water Festival. The name Songkran comes from a Sanskrit word meaning 'passing'.
