Original caption: 10/11/1968-Cape Kennedy, Florida- In the launch control center at Complex 34, awaiting the liftoff of Apollo 7, are the director of Kennedy Space Center and the director of launch director Petrone is in the foreground. Apollo 7 lifted off at 11:03 a.m., EDT, and was inserted into Earth orbit to begin an 11-day flight. The purpose of the flight is to qualify the spacrecraft for a future manned mission to the moon. The flight of Apollo 7 is conducted by the National Aeronautics and Space Adminstration.
