Police in Boston line the docks as they watch the departure of the Acorn. After a brief trial police escorted the fugitive slave Thomas Sims to the ship and sent him back to Georgia. Twice in 1851 abolitionists in Boston and New York ignored the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act and attempted to rescue escaped slaves.
