Head of Curly-Haired Tarantula

Head of Curly-Haired Tarantula

The curly-haired tarantula is not a true tarantula but belongs to the bird-eating family of spiders. Although they look formidable the curly-haired tarantula usually inflicts no more injury then a bee sting. At the end of the abdomen are the spinnerets which produce the silk that protects the eggs. At the front of the body two pedipalps feel for prey, they look like extra legs. They also have two huge fangs for injecting poison. The spider measures 8 cm long.
