Electrostatic Generator

Developed by Francis Hauksbee (1666-1713) in 1710 electrostatic generators were used by scientists in experiments as well as for public entertainment. A hand-turned crank revolves a glass cylinder against a leather strip and the electric charge generated is collected by a comb-shaped metal collector and may be stored in a Leyden jar.
