Live Sarin and VX Nerve Agent Training

Live Sarin and VX Nerve Agent Training

After training, the last test of the gas mask is conducted before exposure to live Sarin & VX nerve agents. To test the masks, Navy, Army and Marine troops are placed under a plastic housing. Then, they are exposed to banana oil and/or other caustic agents. If subject either smells the oil or reacts to the caustic agent, the gas mask is not working and the trainee is pulled out of the next phase, which is lethal exposure to nerve agents. --- Photo by Leif Skoogfors/Corbis | Location: Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, United States.
