Mandela Officially Opens News Pediatric Center in South Africa

After officially opening the new Walter Sisulu Pediatric Cardiac Center for Africa, Nelson Mandela visits a few of the children already being treated in the hospital, including Oupa Mathebula, 10, recovering from an operation to correct the facial disfigurement left by a bone tumor. Due to the disease, Mathebula has never smiled and the right side of his face is badly swollen. Good Samaritans brought the rural child to the hospital, where he was operated on free of charge. The new center, named in tribute to Mandela's comrade in arms who died earlier this year, will cater for underprivileged African children who could not normally afford the treatment. There is hope that donors will enable this new center to thrive and readdress the imbalances for the underprivileged of Africa.
