A 19th century lithograph depicts Martin Luther's defense of his anti-Church writings before Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the 1521 Diet of Worms. Luther, who had already been excommunicated, was declared a heretic after his refusal to recant. Painted by P.A. Labouchere, engraved by F. Nargeot, 1862.
