Dean Acheson

Dean Acheson (1893-1971) was a leader in U.S. foreign policy during the Cold War. He served as Secretary of State under Truman, helping to create the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. He is also remembered for standing firmly behind his State Department staff under pressure from Senator Joseph McCarthy.
