Governor George C. Wallace Blocking Doorway of University of Alabama

Confronted by U.S. Justice Department officials, Alabama Governor. George C. Wallace keeps his promise to Alabama voters "to stand in the schoolhouse door" in order to block the end of segregation in Alabama schools. The all white University of Alabama was desegregated that same day by the admission of two African American students, Vivian Malone and James A. Hood.
