Original caption: Given 42 Year Sentence for Spying. London, England: British diplomat George Blake, 38, (shown in this April 1953 file photo), pled guilty May 3rd to charges of spying for Russia since he emerged from Communist North Korean captivity, eight years ago. Blake was serving in Korea as vice consul in July 1950 when the invading North Koreans captured him. Blake was sentenced to 42 years in jail by Lord Chief Justice Parker at the Old Bailey Courthouse. The sentence was the sternest ever imposed in British peacetime history.
