Original caption: Royal Family at Balmoral. Deeside, West Aberdeenshire, Scotland: Prince Charles looks on as the duke of Edinburgh's dog "Candy" plays with his master in the grounds of Balmoral Castle during the royal family's summer holiday in August 1955. The castle is the private property of the sovereign. Prince Albert bought the 11,000 acre estate in 1852 for L31,500 and the castle was rebuilt three years later. It was the favorite residence of Queen Victoria, who often held court there.
