1914 Restoration of the Star Spangled Banner American Flag
Amelia Fowler works to restore the original Star Spangled Banner in 1914. The flag was made in 1813 by Mary Pickersgill, and flew over Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor during the War of 1812. After the flag survived an all night bombardment by British forces, the flag inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem Defense of Fort McHenry. Later poem would be set to music and become the U.S. national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner.
