Original caption: The Boston Red Sox may have been staggering around in third place in the American League, but it's not because they're hitting. Left fielder Ted Williams, (L) is second in the League with 41 runs batted in and is tied with shortstop Vern Stephens, (C), for the homer lead with 11. Stephens, who tied with Williams in 1949 for the RBI title with 159, belted across 47 runs to top the circuit. First sacker Walt Dropo, (R), a Johnny Come Lately, only had slugged out 10 homers, driven in 32 runs, and was batting .348 to tie with teammates Johnny Pesky and Dom DiMaggio for fourth place in averages. And still they lost!
